Instructor: Mrs. LoParrino
AIS1 "Techy" Kids

Ms. Cioffi and her first grade class participated with Ms. LoParrino in the Region 2 and Fordham University's (RETC) Regional Educational Technology Program during the 2004-2005 school year.

Ms. LoParrino worked with Class 1-213 twice a week and demonstrated how to use the computer, how to do research, and how to save the information to a Word Document.

On Thursday, March 3rd, 2005 Ms. LoParrino was given a free website by Group Fusion to use with this class!
Now they could keep in touch with each other whenever they had interesting things to say or share.  Yeah!

Thank you RETC and Mrs. Cioffi - you've made this year lots of fun for everyone!!!

Class Announcements
Moving On

The good news is that I have my M.S.Ed in Educational Technology, and I now know a great deal more about enhancing the curriculum through technology.  Another good thing is that my Masters Thesis on the research I conducted at The School at Columbia is a part of ERIC, a teacher resource with the U.S. Dept. of Education.

The sad news is that I will not be returning to P.S. 83 in September 2006.  I was offered a new position as a Literacy Coach with the Reading First program in another school and another region.  I will be working for the NYCBOE in Region 9, Distrct 7 at a parochial school in the south Bronx.  During my stay with the K-3 teachers at the Immaculate Conception School, one of my major responsibilities is to teach the teachers at this site the Best Practices in teaching reading that I learned as an Internal Consultant in Communication Arts with Region 2 in District 11.  I will also be learning some new things and using  technology tools such as  the Palm Pilot and the Blackberry.

I shall miss you and Ms. Joann Cioffi.  I will always be grateful to her for accepting me into her classroom and allowing us to practice the new ideas in educational technology presented by Theresa Lupo from Fordham University's Regional Educational Technology Program (RETC).

I certainly hope you are always interested and curious about using the technology tools that were introduced to you by Theresa and me.  I certainly hope that we get another opportunity to work together again in the near future.

Keep reaching for the stars out there on the Net!

News Update

Look over my resume to discover all the interesting and exciting things that are taking place while on sabbatical from the NYCDOE.  Here are some of the highlights...

I am enjoying the opportunities to teach and to learn with  so many wonderful people in so many different places like the Educational Technology Department at Mercy College, the RETC Program at Fordham University and The School at Columbia University.

Our Butterfly WebQuest was presented at a meeting of the Butterfly Project and a representative from the Bronx Zoo recommended it as a useful educational tool.

The report I wrote about our experiences on the Monarch Butterfly WebQuest is under review for publication with the ERIC database as a teacher resource.

This is the official website of the First Grade's AIS coordinator, Mrs. LoParrino. It is a work in progress. If you have any ideas on how to make this an interesting and informative website, I'd love to hear from you.
